Connect Earth buys Datia in sustainable finance push

Datia

Connect Earth has announced its acquisition of Datia, a Stockholm-headquartered ESG reporting platform serving asset managers and financial institutions across Europe and the US.

The deal represents a significant step in Connect Earth’s ambition to build what it calls the Sustainable Finance Operating System (OS), an end-to-end infrastructure designed to help banks and asset managers meet regulation, engage clients, and scale ESG-linked finance. While the value of the transaction was not disclosed, the move is framed as a strategic consolidation to simplify and modernise ESG compliance and reporting.

Connect Earth specialises in API-first carbon and ESG data infrastructure. Its platform enables institutions to measure emissions, enrich SME data, and provide sustainability insights at both retail and portfolio level. Datia, meanwhile, has developed advanced ESG reporting and disclosure tools that support compliance with regulatory requirements such as SFDR, CSRD, and the EU Taxonomy.

The acquisition comes against the backdrop of financial institutions facing tighter regulations and higher compliance costs while trying to deliver value for clients. Many continue to rely on fragmented systems and duplicate datasets. By combining their expertise, Connect Earth and Datia aim to offer a single harmonised solution spanning compliance reporting, carbon footprinting, client engagement, and ESG-linked lending.

The new joint platform has been designed to provide broad functionality. This includes regulatory compliance and reporting for SFDR, PAI, EET and CSRD disclosures; transaction-level emissions measurement for retail and SMEs; in-app sustainability engagement tools for customers and advisors; and origination workflows to support green lending. The companies say this unified dataset will cover retail, business, wealth, and asset management use cases, offering institutions efficiency and scale.

Connect Earth CEO Alexander Lempka said, “Finance is the most powerful lever we have to address sustainability. By acquiring Datia and unifying ESG reporting with emissions data and customer engagement, Connect Earth is redefining how financial institutions approach sustainability.”

He added, “We help banks and asset managers move beyond compliance, turning regulation into opportunity and impact into growth. Effectively, we now cover demand generation for sustainable products and the supply of regulatory reporting tools.”

Datia CEO and founder Juan Manuel Serruya said, “By joining forces with Connect Earth, we’re bringing together two leaders in sustainable finance to deliver an end-to-end offering for banks, from retail and wealth to asset management and lending. Our combined technology, data, and global footprint across EMEA and North America will help customers move faster and with more confidence. I’m proud of what we’ve built at Datia and excited to keep supporting the combined company as a board observer.”
