Yubico and HYPR join forces to automate identity verification

Yubico

HYPR and Yubico have strengthened their long-standing collaboration to further secure and scale enterprise passkey adoption.

The companies said the renewed partnership aims to address the growing need for identity-verified deployment of YubiKeys, ensuring organisations can confidently provision hardware-backed, phishing-resistant credentials to verified individuals across distributed teams.

HYPR focuses on enabling secure authentication by eliminating passwords and enabling phishing-resistant login experiences, while Yubico is known for pioneering FIDO-certified hardware security keys used by enterprises worldwide. Together, they are working to simplify identity assurance and passkey distribution for global organisations.

As part of the collaboration, HYPR Affirm — HYPR’s identity verification orchestration platform — now directly integrates with Yubico’s provisioning capabilities. This enables enterprises to verify a user’s identity, provision a YubiKey with a pre-registered FIDO credential, and ship it to the correct recipient without requiring IT or security teams to act as intermediaries. The integration is designed to support distributed and hybrid teams, where traditional manual processes such as tracking shipments or activating keys no longer provide sufficient security against modern threats.

The partnership introduces an automated process that links identity proofing with hardware credential issuance. Enterprises can bind a verified user to a YubiKey before it is shipped and ensure that the hardware-backed credential is ready for immediate activation once received. This removes guesswork, eliminates shared secrets, and reduces operational delays while maintaining Yubico’s established security standards.

HYPR Affirm’s verification flow uses methods such as government ID scanning, biometric checks with liveness detection, location data, and optional video verification. Once verified, users receive a PIN to activate the phishing-resistant credential associated with the organisation’s identity provider.

The combined solution is tailored for large-scale deployments, supporting organisations distributing hundreds or thousands of keys across regions. By ensuring every issued key is linked to a verified user, companies can cut failed enrolments, reduce helpdesk intervention, and accelerate security rollouts. The model also applies beyond initial deployment, supporting resets, re-issues and employee role changes with identity re-verification built into each step.
