AWS and HSBC have partnered to migrate PayMe’s entire platform to AWS’s cloud, enhancing the mobile wallet’s performance, scalability and innovation capabilities.

The move is designed to strengthen the mobile wallet’s ability to support rapid growth, improve customer experience and advance innovation within digital payments, according to FF News.

AWS offers cloud services used by millions of organisations worldwide, providing computing power, storage, security and a wide range of advanced tools for digital transformation.

Its infrastructure underpins mission-critical applications across financial services, enabling high levels of resilience and regulatory compliance.

By moving PayMe’s infrastructure to AWS, HSBC has unlocked notable technical improvements. These include faster application response times enabling near-instant transactions, optimised resource usage that reduces infrastructure costs, enhanced security frameworks and speeding up feature deployment cycles from months to weeks. PayMe can also now scale quickly during peak shopping seasons and leverage advanced data analytics for more personalised insights and fraud prevention.

This migration highlights growing confidence across the financial services sector in AWS’s capacity to support regulated, mission-critical payment systems. HSBC’s successful transition provides a blueprint for other institutions looking to modernise their payment architecture while meeting stringent regulatory controls.

AWS managing director of worldwide financial services Scott Mullins said, “By moving to AWS, PayMe is leveraging the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud services to enhance its reliability, scalability, and innovation capabilities.” He added, “This migration demonstrates our deep collaboration with HSBC and our shared commitment to delivering superior digital banking experiences. This successful transition to AWS sets a new standard for financial institutions looking to modernize their payment platforms.”

HSBC interim chief information officer, Hong Kong and head of technology, retail banking and wealth, Hong Kong, Benedict Woo said, “Our migration is a strategic step in our ambition to deliver exceptional, future-ready digital experiences. The improved performance, security and scalability of the AWS platform are foundational, empowering us to innovate with greater agility and consistently provide our customers with a seamless and secure payment journey.”
