Capitolis, a London-based FinTech company specialising in financial markets infrastructure, has appointed Okan Pekin as its new president.
Pekin, who previously served on the Capitolis board, will report directly to Gil Mandelzis, chief executive officer and founder, and will support the firm’s plans to scale and accelerate the next stage of its growth.
Capitolis provides technology that helps optimise balance sheet efficiency for global financial institutions. The company works with banks, investors, and other market participants to streamline capital use, reduce risk, and create safer and more resilient financial markets through innovative solutions and platforms.
Pekin brings more than 35 years of international financial services experience to his new role. Before joining Capitolis, he spent his career at Citi, where he most recently held the position of global head of securities services, overseeing a $5bn business and driving significant client expansion. He previously led several major business units, including equity prime finance, futures & clearing, and FX prime brokerage, and has held senior roles in investor services, FX, local markets and debt capital markets.
In addition to his operational expertise, Pekin has served as a board member at Capitolis for five years on behalf of Citi, giving him deep insight into the company’s strategic priorities and market positioning. His appointment follows a series of senior hires at Capitolis, including Richard Schiffman as chief product officer, Amol Naik as chief operating officer, and Melanie Carucci as global head of sales.
Capitolis CEO and founder Gil Mandelzis said, “Capitolis has grown tremendously and now, we’re preparing for our next phase and focusing on what’s needed to continue our momentum. With that growth comes complexity across our business, products, clients, and delivery, and getting this right is critical to maximizing our potential. I’m thrilled to welcome Okan, someone I know and trust, who brings exceptional experience and a proven track record of delivering at scale in global financial services with the highest level of professionalism. I am confident about our future and excited about the opportunity to continue to deepen strategic client relationships, drive further product innovation, and advance our long-term growth.”
Capitolis president Okan Pekin said, “I am honored to join Capitolis as President at this pivotal moment and believe we are building a truly consequential global company that will have a lasting, meaningful impact on the financial services industry. Having worked with this talented team over the years, I’m eager to get started and look forward to partnering with Gil to scale the business by driving excellence and expanding our platform as we continue to innovate.”
Capitolis executive chairman and co-founder Tom Glocer said, “The directors and senior management of Capitolis have gotten to know Okan from his distinguished service on our board. We are excited that among many options he has now chosen to join us as President and are confident that Okan is the right leader to propel Capitolis into its next stage of growth.”
