United Airlines launches UK-first rewards debit card

United Airlines, the U.S. carrier and operator of the MileagePlus loyalty programme, has teamed up with Currensea, a payments technology platform specialising in co-branded multi-bank debit cards, and Mastercard to launch the United Airlines Debit Card — the first rewards debit card offered to UK travellers by a U.S. airline.

The card, which is available now, can be linked to any existing UK bank account, allowing customers to earn MileagePlus miles and access exclusive travel benefits on everyday spending both at home and abroad. Cardholders will also benefit from competitive foreign exchange rates when spending overseas, without needing to open a new bank account or top up a separate card.

The launch builds on United’s recently announced enhancements to its MileagePlus programme, which take effect from 2 April 2026. From that date, holders of eligible United-branded credit or debit cards will benefit from accelerated mileage earning when booking United flights, discounts of 10% or more on award tickets, and access to exclusive Saver Award fares.

United Airlines managing director, global co-brand cards Bob Daly said: “The UK is one of United’s most important international markets, and we’re continually looking for new ways to deliver greater value to our customers here. With the launch of our first UK debit card, we’re giving customers a simple, flexible way to earn MileagePlus miles on everyday spending — whether they’re at home or travelling abroad. This partnership with Currensea and Mastercard allows us to extend the benefits of the United MileagePlusSM programme beyond travel and into our customers’ daily lives.”

Currensea co-founder and CEO James Lynn said: “We’re thrilled to be working with United Airlines and Mastercard to bring the first US airline rewards debit card to the UK. It means people in the UK can earn free flights, higher membership status and other perks as a reward for their usual day-to-day debit spending, as well as benefiting from the recent enhancements to the MileagePlus programme when booking United flights.

“With the new United Airlines Debit Card, customers can enjoy world-class benefits and some of the very best foreign exchange rates on overseas spending, all without changing their existing bank accounts.”
