Corgi Insurance, a full-stack insurance platform, and Trucker Path Insurance, the insurance arm of the widely used trip-planning app Trucker Path, have introduced what they describe as the first trucking insurance programme underwritten using route-planning data.
The offering is available exclusively to users of the Trucker Path app, which is relied upon by more than 1.2 million professional drivers to plan their journeys.
The programme is opt-in and remains under the driver’s control, with coverage spanning auto liability, motor truck cargo, physical damage and general liability. Trucker Path Insurance acts as agent of record for the policies, while Corgi has structured the underwriting itself around navigation data supplied by Trucker Path.
The two companies point to severe weather and cargo theft corridors as among the most persistent causes of loss in trucking, noting that conventional underwriting typically only accounts for these risks after a claim has already occurred.
Trucker Path’s app is designed to help drivers avoid such exposure before it materialises, offering truck-specific routing alongside hazard warnings, sharp-turn alerts, road closure updates and lane restriction notices. Because these routing decisions are made before a vehicle even leaves the yard, they play a direct role in shaping a fleet’s risk profile. By building underwriting around this planning data, the partners say fleets that regularly avoid known risk areas can be recognised accordingly.
The companies also note that data-driven underwriting in the trucking sector has so far been concentrated among larger operators, largely because telematics hardware and its associated subscription costs are difficult to justify for smaller fleets. As a result, operations running fewer than ten trucks have typically been assessed using filings, loss history and driver records alone.
Trucker Path Insurance says its approach reaches these smaller fleets through an app many of them already use daily, drawing underwriting data from a platform operated by its own parent company.
