Coinbase, Stablecore expand digital assets to small banks

Coinbase, the US-based digital asset exchange and digital asset infrastructure provider, and Stablecore, a firm that builds white-labelled digital asset technology for community and regional banks and credit unions, have formed a partnership aimed at bringing stablecoin and digital asset services to smaller financial institutions.

The tie-up is already live with financial institutions including Amarillo National Bank in Texas. It allows banks and credit unions to offer digital asset custody, trading and stablecoin payments to their customers without needing to leave their existing banking platform or build new technology from scratch.

Stablecore works exclusively with community and regional banks and credit unions, integrating digital asset services into their existing core banking, digital banking and compliance systems. Its platform reaches more than 3,000 US banks and credit unions, while Coinbase provides the regulated infrastructure for custody and exchange. Together, the companies aim to help smaller institutions offer digital asset products under their own brands without overhauling their existing technology.

Under the arrangement, banking customers will be able to buy, sell, hold, make payments with and stake digital assets directly through their existing bank or credit union interface. Stablecore is responsible for managing integrations and orchestration across the institution’s technology platforms, while Coinbase provides the underlying regulated infrastructure. The companies frame the move as part of a broader shift of financial activity on-chain, arguing that regional and community banks and credit unions, which serve millions of customers, should not be excluded from that shift simply because of their size.

Coinbase Head of Infrastructure Business Alec Lovett said, “Community banks and credit unions shouldn’t have to choose between staying local and staying current. Together with Stablecore we are helping put them on the cutting edge of payments technology – cheaper, faster money movement, and the tools they need to stay strong for the communities they serve.”

Stablecore Co-Founder and CEO Alex Treece added, “Banks and credit unions should not have to move to completely new technology platforms to support digital assets for their clients. We built Stablecore to bring together all of the pieces so they don’t have to.”
