8am, the financial technology provider behind LawPay and CPACharge, is expanding further into embedded finance with the launch of 8am Capital, a new funding product that uses payment activity to assess eligibility.
The product, unveiled as part of the company’s Fall 2026 Showcase, is built directly into 8am LawPay and uses funding from Fundbox. Rather than relying solely on traditional credit checks and financial paperwork, 8am Capital uses a firm’s payment history to help determine whether it qualifies for funding.
Approved firms can receive funds within one to two business days, while repayments adjust according to revenue rather than following a fixed monthly schedule. The company said the structure is IOLTA-compliant for practices managing client trust accounts. Firms can use the funding for expenses including hiring, marketing, office expansion and day-to-day cash flow. Fundbox’s products are originated by Lead Bank.
The launch reflects a broader move by payment providers to build additional financial services around the transaction data they already hold. For professional services firms, payment history can provide an alternative source of information when assessing access to working capital. Alongside 8am Capital, the company has expanded Smart Spend Intelligence within LawPay to help firms identify expenses that should be recovered from clients.
When a transaction is categorised, the tool can now suggest the most likely case based on recent activity. A new dashboard also gives firms a month-to-date and year-to-date view of spending linked to individual cases, helping them identify costs that may otherwise go unrecovered.
8am said firms using modern financial infrastructure recover more of the money they are owed and do so almost five times faster than those relying on legacy processes. The Showcase also builds on several payment capabilities introduced by 8am over the past six months.
These include guaranteed next-business-day deposits as standard across LawPay and CPACharge, as well as Apple Pay support at checkout. The company has also introduced Quick Charge, allowing firms to accept payments without first creating a contact, case or invoice.
Its Pay Later offering has also been expanded, allowing eligible clients to spread payments across monthly instalments while firms receive the full amount upfront. Limits have now increased to $30,000 at 0% APR.
Founded in 2005, 8am operates LawPay, CPACharge, MyCase, CasePeer and DocketWise, serving legal, accounting and other client service professionals. The company said it now supports more than 270,000 users across North America. The latest product release also expands 8am’s use of AI across its professional services platforms.
8am MyCase MCP is described by the company as the first official Claude connector for legal practice management. It supports 73 actions across areas including cases, clients, documents, billing and intake, allowing users to retrieve information such as outstanding invoices and case summaries through Claude while maintaining existing permissions.
The company has also introduced 8am IQ Firm Agent, which brings together firm-wide financial and performance information, and 8am IQ Draft, which generates first drafts and templates using case data. 8am cited research showing that 39% of legal professionals lose four or more billable hours each week to administration, while 41% say this costs their firm at least $5,000 in revenue each month.
8am chief product officer Tanya Hendricks said, “Professionals spend years learning and training in their craft. Often, too little of that training is about running a business, but that’s what small firms demand every day. Our Fall 2026 Showcase is shaped directly by customer feedback and built to ease the operational side of running a practice, from the first draft of a document to the last unpaid invoice, so professionals can focus on their clients and growth.”
Ken Gallon & Associates founding attorney Ken Gallon added, “8am Capital gave me the funding needed to add another attorney and expand my practice. Usually with a loan like this through a bank, you’re downloading three or four months of bank statements and filling out forms. It’s a whole process. With 8am Capital, it was already set up. We just answered the questions and got approved. The convenience is awesome.”
