Zact, a commercial banking technology provider, has launched an expanded platform designed to help banks modernise commercial card, expense management, payables and travel services while keeping control of their customer relationships.
The Sunnyvale, California-based company said the Zact Platform allows banks to bring multiple commercial financial services together through a single interface without handing customer relationships, deposits or revenue streams to third-party FinTech providers.
The platform is designed to work within a bank’s existing technology architecture, connecting to the processors, card networks and payment rails already in use. Zact has completed integrations with two of the world’s largest issuer processors serving banks, with a third integration underway. The platform also supports all three major global card networks, giving banks the ability to introduce new commercial capabilities without replacing their existing partnerships.
Zact’s offering is built around three core components. Its infrastructure and integration layer connects the platform to existing bank systems and keeps funds and transactions on bank rails. The second component is a suite of applications covering commercial cards and expense management, integrated payables and invoice automation, travel booking and reconciliation, and rebate management. AI-assisted features are used to automate areas including policy enforcement, approvals and workflows.
Banks can deploy the applications individually or adopt the wider suite depending on their requirements. The third component, the Portfolio Console, provides a centralised view of commercial programmes. By combining data from across the platform, the console is designed to give banks greater visibility into their portfolios and support analysis and oversight at programme level.
The approach reflects growing competition between established banks and FinTech providers for commercial customers. FinTech platforms have increasingly offered businesses digital tools covering payments, cards, expense management and other financial services, potentially creating additional touchpoints between those businesses and non-bank providers.
Zact is positioning its platform as a way for banks to respond without replacing the underlying infrastructure and relationships they already have.
By bringing commercial financial services and related workflows together, the company said banks can provide a more consistent experience for business customers while retaining a larger share of the financial activity associated with those relationships.
Zact CEO John Thomas said, “Banks shouldn’t have to watch fintechs take more of the commercial customer relationship simply because they offer a better technology experience. Banks already have the customers, deposits, trust and financial infrastructure. We’ve built the technology that helps them compete effectively, deliver the experience their customers expect and keep more of that relationship.”
