MSI is moving deeper into the US housing market with a new insurance proposition for manufactured home communities, bringing coverage and insurance compliance into the same digital workflow used by property operators.
The managing general agency, which is backed by The Baldwin Group, has launched the offering nationwide through LeaseTrack, its insurance tracking technology. The platform allows operators to monitor residents’ coverage while giving residents access to insurance options that can satisfy requirements attached to their leases.
Manufactured housing represents a substantial market in the US. MSI cites Census Bureau data showing that almost eight million manufactured homes are occupied by more than 16 million people nationwide.
For insurers and property managers, however, the segment can present different requirements from conventional housing. MSI says the market has lacked both insurance products designed around manufactured properties and straightforward technology for keeping track of residents’ coverage.
The new proposition is designed to address both issues without creating another standalone process for operators. Insurance checks are incorporated into LeaseTrack, allowing community managers to oversee residents’ policies through an existing technology workflow.
MSI is extending a model it has already deployed in multifamily housing. The company says its embedded renters insurance offering has reached more than one million residents through property management technology platforms, placing insurance within the digital systems used by housing operators.
The company expects the same approach to help manufactured housing operators reduce the administrative burden associated with insurance verification and identify potential gaps in coverage. For residents, the model provides a more direct route to obtaining insurance that meets community requirements.
The launch illustrates the expansion of embedded insurance beyond traditional financial services. By connecting insurance distribution with property management software, insurers can integrate coverage into processes where customers already complete other housing-related tasks.
MSI, formally Millennial Specialty Insurance, provides more than 20 personal, commercial and professional insurance products and serves more than 1.5 million customers through its distribution network. The company is an indirect subsidiary of The Baldwin Insurance Group.
Founded in 2015, MSI joined The Baldwin Group in 2019. Baldwin provides insurance distribution, risk management and employee benefits services to more than three million clients in the US and internationally.
MSI executive vice president of multifamily Wil Robertshaw said, “Factory-built homes, whether manufactured or modular, don’t always fit neatly into standard insurance policies. MSI’s manufactured housing insurance solutions give residents an easy path to coverage options and provide operators the ability to track who’s covered and receiving the protection they need.”
MSI vice president of manufactured housing Matt Churinske said, “As the manufactured housing industry continues to grow, so does the need for insurance solutions built specifically for it. This is the first step in what we’re building for this market, and we’ll continue expanding it alongside the operators and communities we serve.”
