Hyperlayer raises £19.5m to speed up bank modernisation

Hyperlayer, a banking technology firm that helps lenders upgrade without overhauling their core platforms, has raised £19.5m in a follow-on investment led by existing backer Flintlock Capital.

The Series A2 round also drew support from Mouro Capital and Susquehanna Private Equity Investments, alongside a mix of returning and new investors.

This marks the second time in a year that Hyperlayer’s existing shareholders have put more money into the business, bringing its total raised since October 2025 to nearly £50m. The deal gives the company a post-money valuation of £195m.

Hyperlayer plans to put the fresh capital towards expanding its product, engineering and implementation functions, while also pushing further into the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Joe Shamess, co-founder and general partner at Flintlock Capital, will take a seat on Hyperlayer’s board of directors as part of the deal.

Hyperlayer was set up in 2023 by Rob Rooney and Paul Rolles, who previously worked together at Morgan Stanley. The company provides a product innovation layer that sits on top of a bank’s existing technology stack and can be integrated quickly. This allows institutions to roll out new products faster and tackle problems created by legacy core infrastructure, without disturbing the underlying systems that keep them stable and compliant.

Alongside the funding news, the company confirmed two changes to its senior team. Louise Chan, a board director who currently serves as chief operating officer, will move into the role of chief commercial officer. Ben Helps, who has been chief strategy officer, will step up to become chief operating officer.

Hyperlayer co-founder and CEO Rob Rooney said, “We’re fortunate to be backed by deep experts in fintech. They’ve watched us go from a standing start to mandates with global Tier 1 banks in three years. That’s what’s convinced them to back where the company goes next.”

Flintlock Capital co-founder and general partner Joe Shamess said, “Hyperlayer’s promise is clear. Banks, credit unions and other financial institutions must modernise at fintech speed without ripping out the core systems that protect them. A year on, that thesis is proven with world class customers and strong market pull. Leading this round, and joining the board, is us doubling down on where Rob and Paul take the business next.”
