FIS launches embedded banking platform for US banks

FIS, a global financial technology provider serving banks, financial institutions and businesses, has launched an embedded banking platform that allows US lenders to offer banking and payment services through the business software their corporate customers already use.

The FIS Embedded Banking Platform allows banks to offer account opening, card issuing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and expense management capabilities directly through accounting and business software.

The offering is designed to remove the need for businesses to leave the software they use to manage their operations and log into a separate banking portal.

Under the model, banks partner with vertical software providers or FinTechs to embed their banking and payment capabilities into existing applications. The bank retains the customer relationship, while the software provider manages the user experience and FIS provides the underlying infrastructure.

Banks can deploy the platform through application programming interfaces (APIs), software development kits (SDKs), embeddable widgets or white-labelled applications, depending on the requirements of the software provider.

A key feature of the platform is that customer accounts remain on the bank’s own balance sheet rather than being held on a third-party ledger.

FIS said this allows banks to retain customer ownership and regulatory control while extending their services into the software businesses already use to run their operations.

The company is bringing the platform to market with a group of pilot banks, including Cogent Bank, Commercial Bank of California and M&T Bank.

Account opening and payment capabilities are expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The launch comes as financial services become increasingly embedded within the software and workflows businesses use to manage their day-to-day operations, creating an opportunity for banks to reach customers through third-party platforms rather than relying solely on their own digital channels.

FIS global head of embedded solutions and money movement Jon Briggs said, “Banks’ customers want banking built into the software they use to run their business every day. Embedded Banking Platform lets banks meet those expectations and stay at the center of the relationship, while maintaining the regulatory control and customer ownership that define traditional banking.”

FIS provides technology infrastructure for payments, banking and investing to financial institutions and businesses globally. The Jacksonville, Florida-based company is listed on the Fortune 500 and S&P 500.
