Identomat, an identity verification platform provider, has launched a major update to its verification technology, redesigning the user journey to make digital onboarding faster and less cumbersome.
The update, internally named Mercury, spans the verification process from start to finish. It introduces a redesigned interface, an upgraded Liveness Check, more flexible document capture and review tools, cross-device functionality and support for a wider range of document types.
The new interface provides clearer guidance throughout the process, while businesses can customise consent screens and instructional text to suit their onboarding journeys. Users can also change their preferred language at any point during verification, rather than being locked into one language at the start of the process.
The biometric verification stage has also been redesigned. The updated Liveness Check includes clearer progress indicators and more direct instructions, while additional anti-fraud measures have been added behind the scenes.
Document capture has also been overhauled. On-device artificial intelligence can now detect and automatically frame identification documents, even when they are not positioned centrally within the camera view.
Users can still manually capture documents where needed, while a new review stage allows them to check submitted ID images and information extracted through optical character recognition (OCR) before continuing.
This gives users the opportunity to retake an image or correct information before completing verification, potentially reducing errors that could otherwise lead to failed or repeated checks.
Identomat said early partners using the redesigned experience have reported a 20% increase in onboarding speed, alongside a 35% reduction in false rejections. Manual interventions fell by 70%, while user abandonment decreased by 30%, according to the company.
Mercury also introduces cross-device verification, allowing users to start the process on one device and continue on another.
Users can switch devices by scanning a QR code, following a link sent via text or email, or pasting a copied link. The functionality is designed to support both remote online verification and face-to-face onboarding.
The update also includes AnyDoc, which allows businesses to configure verification for document types beyond the standard identification documents typically supported by verification platforms.
These can include vehicle registration documents, tax identification documents and other paperwork relevant to specific use cases.
The changes come as financial institutions and other businesses look to balance identity verification and fraud prevention with the customer experience during digital onboarding.
Additional checks, unclear instructions and failed document captures can create friction for legitimate customers, while overly simplified verification can leave businesses exposed to fraud.
Identomat CEO Zurab Kotaria said, “Verification is a critical part of the onboarding process, but it shouldn’t become a barrier between businesses and their customers. With the latest updates, we redesigned the experience around that idea. Our goal is to make verification simpler and more intuitive for users, while giving businesses greater flexibility to create an onboarding experience that works for their specific needs – all without compromising security or reliability.”
Mercury is being rolled out as a configurable theme within the Identomat platform.
