Ant International scales AMP as agentic payments go global

Ant International, the FinTech, digitisation and FinAI solutions provider behind the Alipay+ network, is expanding its Agentic Mobile Protocol (AMP) across the global payments ecosystem as digital wallets and acquirers prepare for AI-driven transactions to move into the mainstream.ƒpayt

The first phase brings together ten Alipay+ digital wallet partners, collectively representing 1.5 billion user accounts, alongside seven acquiring partners: Adyen, Allinpay, Checkout.com, Fiserv, Global Payments, Nuvei and Worldline.

The participating wallets include Alipay in China, AlipayHK in Hong Kong SAR, DANA in Indonesia, GCash in the Philippines, KakaoPay in South Korea, MPay in Macao SAR, TNG eWallet in Malaysia, TrueMoney in Thailand, Toss in South Korea and Starryblu in Singapore.

The expansion takes the wider Alipay+ ecosystem to more than 50 mobile payment partners and over ten national QR code schemes, connecting 150 million merchants with more than two billion consumer accounts worldwide.

Alongside the AMP rollout, Ant International is working with Mastercard and Visa on a Know-Your-Agent (KYA) interoperability framework designed to establish common approaches to agent onboarding and identification across card networks, digital wallets, agent platforms and marketplaces.

The framework will allow participating networks to retain their own verification and decision-making processes while creating a common approach to identifying AI agents. The work is being pursued through BuildFin.ai, a platform convened by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to bring financial institutions, technology companies and researchers together on responsible AI development.

Launched in April 2026, AMP is an open protocol designed for digital wallets, super apps and connected devices, allowing AI agents to make payments on a user’s behalf. Rather than giving an AI agent unrestricted access to a user’s account, AMP allows consumers to authorise specific tasks with defined budgets and conditions, such as preferred dates or minimum ratings.

The protocol also incorporates an Agent Trust Rating to establish an agent’s digital identity and certified capabilities, while AgentSafePay provides merchants with a money-back guarantee against risks associated with agent-led transactions, including hallucinated requirements or purchases that differ from what a consumer authorised.

AMP also includes a settlement mechanism designed for high-frequency agent-to-agent transactions, supporting payments as small as $0.000001. Ant International says this is intended to support the sub-cent transaction volumes expected as agentic commerce develops.

To encourage adoption beyond its own ecosystem, Ant International has open-sourced AMP on GitHub, making its source code, developer SDKs and technical documentation available to developers, AI platforms, wallets, acquirers and financial institutions.

Ant International chief innovation officer Jiang-Ming Yang said, “AMP has been created to enable agents to enter existing mobile payment systems as trusted actors. We are inspired to see how, a few months into its launch, more and more wallets and payment partners are accelerating their AI strategy by bringing this exciting capability to users in the real world.”

Yang added, “Meanwhile, agentic commerce will only have a real path to mass adoption when supported with a deep foundation of trust. While AMP continues to invest in our own security solutions like AgentSafePay, we are also committed more than ever to strengthening collaboration with card networks, policy leaders like MAS and other stakeholders on new accountability mechanisms, to ensure all agentic transactions are protected by our collaborative agent identity and authorisation capabilities across markets and rails.”

Adyen global head of agentic commerce Karan Katyal said, “The promise of agentic commerce relies on open, interoperable systems that allow trusted agents to move seamlessly across networks. Adyen is pleased to collaborate with Ant International in building this foundation, helping our enterprise customers experiment and scale as the global agentic ecosystem takes shape.”

Checkout.com general manager of Asia Pacific Brian Sze also commented, “Agentic commerce is a channel expansion, similar to how mobile was, and to date it’s been largely card-based. AMP extends this to the wallets where billions of consumers already transact, across many more markets. At Checkout.com we’re supporting that expansion for our merchants, allowing a consumer buying through an AI surface like Gemini or ChatGPT to pay with Alipay+ just as they would anywhere else.”
