Ripple Treasury closes the gap on ungoverned AI agents

Ripple, the blockchain-based payments and digital asset infrastructure provider, has expanded GSmart, the treasury-native artificial intelligence engine embedded within Ripple Treasury, adding a wider set of governed capabilities designed to help corporate finance teams work more efficiently without ceding control to automated systems.

The expansion brings new policy-governed functionality across forecasting, liquidity, risk, reconciliation and reporting. GSmart is already live across Ripple Treasury’s enterprise customer base, and the update is intended to help finance teams reach decisions more quickly while preserving the oversight and audit trails that large organisations require.

The launch lands as businesses adopt AI agents far more quickly than they are building the governance structures to manage them. Gartner has forecast that the typical Fortune 500 company could be running upwards of 150,000 agents by 2028, yet only 13% of organisations currently believe they have adequate governance of those agents in place.

For treasury functions handling sensitive financial operations, that mismatch between adoption and control sharpens the risk attached to how AI tools are rolled out.

GSmart’s design responds directly to that risk by keeping financial calculation and AI-driven interpretation separate. The underlying financial decisions are handled by deterministic engines, while artificial intelligence is applied to interpreting policy, spotting patterns and explaining the reasoning behind each recommendation. Treasury staff retain final sign-off on every financial action the system proposes.

The expanded offering brings together a set of AI tools spanning treasury operations, analytics and risk oversight. This includes orchestrated agents that operate across forecasting and planning, liquidity, risk, reconciliation and reporting, each of which tracks its own process, puts forward a specific recommended action, references the policy clause it is acting on, and pauses for sign-off before anything is carried out.

A component called Knowledge Studio acts as the governance layer underpinning GSmart, letting treasury teams set the organisational rules and controls that shape how the AI functions operate, with every suggested action checked against those rules before being escalated to a staff member. The suite also includes Analytics Studio, home to Ask GSmart, which gives treasury teams a conversational tool for pulling answers and insights from treasury data via a single analytics and reporting foundation.

Uptake among Ripple Treasury’s enterprise customers is already under way, with 60% of those eligible switching on Risk Insights, a feature that flags exposure anomalies and breaches of policy, and 44% using Forecast Insights, which measures forecasted cash flow against actual figures to flag liquidity shortfalls before they emerge. Ripple Treasury frames GSmart as part of a broader ambition to give corporate treasurers and CFOs a single platform for managing both traditional and digital assets.

It follows the earlier rollout of native digital asset functionality this year, with GSmart now layering predictive insight across the treasury process. Combined, the tools are pitched as letting finance teams view, forecast, move and generate returns on cash and digital asset holdings globally, consolidating treasury functions that have traditionally been spread across disconnected systems.

“Every CFO is under pressure to embrace AI, but they’re equally responsible for ensuring every financial decision is explainable, governed and compliant,” Ripple Treasury SVP Renaat Ver Eecke said. “Rather than asking customers to blindly trust an AI system, GSmart works within each organization’s own treasury policies to surface recommendations transparently, while ensuring humans remain in control of every decision. This isn’t simply AI-native treasury, but rather treasury-native AI.”
