Paymob raises $35m to fuel MENA payments growth

Egypt-based Paymob, the leading payments infrastructure service provider in the MENA region, has secured $35m in a pre-Series C funding round.

The round was co-led by Mubadala Investment Company, an Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

British International Investment, Global Ventures and DPI Ventures also took part in the raise. The fresh capital will support Paymob’s ongoing growth across MENA, both by scaling its core digital payments acceptance operations and by rolling out new products aimed at SME merchants and at agentic commerce use cases.

The funding round comes on the back of a strong 18-month stretch for the company. Consolidated revenues across its four markets have tripled over that period, while revenue from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has grown sevenfold and now accounts for close to half of the firm’s total income.

Paymob has onboarded around 20,000 merchants across its three GCC markets since it received its Retail Payment Services Licence from the Central Bank of the UAE in January 2025.

The company points to fragmentation as a persistent problem for merchants operating in the region, who typically need to juggle seven to eight different payment methods spanning buy-now-pay-later providers, local card networks and bank instalment schemes, each requiring its own integration, negotiation and settlement process. Paymob says its platform addresses this by consolidating access to more than 60 payment methods under a single contract, API and dashboard.

Paymob is an omnichannel financial technology platform built to support SME growth, enabling merchants to take online and offline payments, process transactions, manage finances and expand their operations through one technology layer.

Paymob Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Islam Shawky said, “Paymob morphed into a regional platform over the past 18 months, propelled by the exponential growth of our GCC business. This Pre-Series C funding round will help us accelerate our growth plan across the MENA region and fast-track our product roadmap to become the go-to payments platform for agentic commerce. We are very excited about Mubadala joining our cap table and grateful for the continued support of our existing shareholders.”

Mubadala Executive Director, UAE Diversified Assets, UAE Investments Platform, Ali Eid Al Mheiri said, “Paymob’s expansion in the UAE aligns closely with our ambition under our MENA Venture Capital Fund, to support companies that strengthen the country’s digital economy and reinforce its position as a leading regional fintech hub. With a scalable payments platform and strong growth potential across the GCC, Paymob is well positioned to support merchants, advance financial inclusion and contribute to economic diversification. This investment reflects Mubadala’s continued focus on backing innovative businesses that can scale across the region and create long-term value.”
