Fintech accelerator Octopus Labs has announced the five startups that will join its first programme.
Launched last month, the accelerator is part of the Octopus Group that also includes Octopus Investments and Octopus adventures.
The five startups joining the London-based accelerator’s 12-week programme are:
- CityFALCON, a personalised financial news feed for non-institutional invetsors and traders.
- MOOLA, an app aiming to make investment simpler and more accessable.
- Squirrel, a mobile app connecting users to professional investment advisors.
- AdviceFront, a support platform for independent financial advisers.
The programme’s director Aggelos Mouzakitis said, “We launched the search for our start-ups just a few weeks ago, and have been truly overwhelmed by the number and standard of the applications we received in such a short time.
Whittling the hopefuls down to our final five was no easy task, but I’m thrilled with the cohort that we’ll be welcoming to Octopus over the next few weeks.”
The accelerator is a separate entity from Octopus Ventures that was started to develop financial services in-house at the investment firm, as well as back startups.
Peer-to-peer lending service Octopus Choice is the first service developed by Octopus Labs.
It may also choose to invest in or ‘spin-in’ successful startups on the programme.
