Chinese digital payments giant Alipay has formed a partnership with FreedomPay to bring its services to North America.
Through the partnership, AliPay’s 600 million Chinese users will be able to make purchases in North America merchants that use FreedomPay’s services. Vendors using the technology include airports, entertainments, resorts, sports arenas and universities. This will open up FreedomPay’s platform to Chinese tourists for their time in America.
Alipay, which is operated by Ant Financial, is an online and mobile payments provider for Chinese consumers.
The company has made a range of partnerships over the past couple months, with it reportedly forming a deal with OpenPay (Mexico). According to an article by PYMNTS, AliPay’s users will be able to complete transactions at businesses in the country, through the OpenPay platform.
Earlier in the month, the company also signed a partnership with Canada-based Motion Pay Technology for the same expansion plans. Chinese tourists can use the AliPay platform in Canada, at vendors that use the Motion Pay solution.
US-based FreedomPay provides merchants with the capability to process payments, as well as access insights and product mapping. The company offers point-to-point encryption through its POS terminal, and is able to personalise customer engagement through automatic discounts and rebates.
FreedomPay founder & CEO Tom Durovsik said, “By partnering with Alipay, we’re opening new revenue opportunities for our customers and connecting them with an important and growing market – Chinese tourists who are visiting North America. Now, our customers can give these travelers the option to use Alipay, the payment method they are most familiar and comfortable with.”
