Shujinko, a Seattle-based cloud security compliance platform, has emerged from stealth with $2.8m in seed funding.
The funding came from Unusual Ventures, Defy, Vulcan Capital, PSL Ventures and Vas Ventures. Sujal Patel, the founder of Isilon Systems, and Andrew Peterson and Zane Lackey, co-founders of web application security leader Signal Sciences, also participated in the round.
Shujinko was incubated at startup studio Pioneer Square Labs, which itself recently raised $15m to expand its incubation program.
Founded by a former director and a manager of Starbucks’ cloud engineering team, Scott Schwan and Matt Wells, Shujinko claims to automate the auditing process for cloud-based IT businesses.
Shujinko claims to enable users to stop collecting evidence manually for audits by building an assistant they need, ensuring compliance from the start and automatically collecting evidence to make their next audit a breeze.
According to its website, users can leverage a self-service portal to empower their engineers to build environments when and how they need.
Users can move to the cloud, with the Shujinko provisioned cloud environment built with security and compliance by design.
Engineers can reduce the amount of time they need spend gathering evidence and supporting audits, while avoiding vendor lock-in.
Prior to Starbucks, Schwan was a technical leader at CARDFREE, Tommy Bahama, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and SAP. He has a background in security and infrastructure engineering that is heavily focused in PCI, retail, e-commerce, mobile order and pay (MOP), and loyalty.
Wells held several engineering roles focused on automating the delivery of highly secure and compliant private and public cloud platforms.
