Dutch independent bank bunq has introduced an API marketplace for developers to demonstrate their apps by using the FinTech company’s open API.
Developers who have integrated bunq’s payment services can be listed independently so that the bank’s customers can see them.
APIs, or application programming interfaces, are sets of subroutines that essentially makes it easier for programmers to create new software by abstracting the underlying implementation and only exposing objects and actions the developer needs.
Ali Niknam, founder and CEO of bunq said the company believes in both innovation and transparency, which was why it had opened up its API before being required to do so by the EU’s new Payment Services Directive (PSD2).
“Being a bank built by fellow coders, bunq lets developers build unique apps that enrich the lives of all bunq users on top of a fully licensed bank,” he continued. “This way we’re spearheading innovation in the entire banking sector, not just in our services.”
