Cambridge researchers and World Economic Forum look into how AI has affected financial services

The academic research institute the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance has teamed up with the World Economic Forum for a project regarding artificial intelligence’s (AI) role in financial services.

The research institute is part of Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

The research will examine how AI is being used through a survey regarding the applications, evolution and impact the technology has had, according to a report by Crowdfund Insider. It will look into both traditional financial services and new emerging FinTech businesses.

The end result will be a report that is going to get published by the last quarter of 2019.

Speaking about the partnership, Bryan Zhang, the executive director of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, said, “With the increasing application of AI in finance by incumbent banks, FinTechs and big techs in recent years, comes a lot of hype and hyperbole which are not underpinned by empirical evidence.

“The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance and the World Economic Forum’s AI in Finance Global Survey aims to bridge that gap in research and collect first-hand empirical data to understand the usage, evolution and impact of artificial intelligence in financial services globally. The resulted report should be able to inform business decision-making as well as regulatory discussions in regard to AI in finance.”
