German companies account for seven of the top ten FinTech investments in DACH region in 2021

N26, an online bank, saw the largest investment in the DACH region during 2021 with a $900m funding round led by Third Point Ventures and Coatue Management which brings the company’s valuation to more than $9bn. FinTech investment in the DACH region has increased four-fold to $10.8bn in total during 2021 with High-Tech Gründerfonds being the most active FinTech investor with 10 investments in total last year. High-Tech Gründerfonds are a seed investor for high-tech start-ups and has financed more than 650 companies in total. While the region has seen significant investment, there is still more room for growth. Mobile banking adoption is significantly lower in Austria (67.3%) and Germany (66.6%) compared to the UK (82.1%) and Scandinavia (Norway 96.4%; Denmark 94.1%; Sweden 90.5%).
