Accelerators lead the way for FinTech investment in Q3 2022

• Speedinvest, which invests in early-stage tech startups across Europe, was the most active FinTech investor in Q3 2022 backing ten businesses in total. Speedinvest currently has more than €600m AUM from 40 investors based in Berlin, London, Munich, Paris, Vienna and San Francisco and have invested in 28 FinTech companies since the start of 2022.
• Notably, the most active FinTech investors in H1 2022 don’t appear on the Q3 list such as Tiger Global Management (70 FinTech investments in H1 2022), Y Combinator (59 FinTech investments in H1 2022) and Global Founders Capital (49 FinTech investments in H1 2022). This may be due to the drop in global investment which has caused investors to back off from new ventures or Q3 is out of their cycle for funding in new FinTech companies.
• Overall European FinTech investment reached $4.2bn in the third quarter of 2022 across 361 deals. The UK was the most active country accounting for 33% of FinTech deals in Q3, Germany was second with a 13% share of total deals and Switzerland was third with 9%. The most active sector was Blockchain & Crypto with 18% of total deals, this was closely followed by WealthTech which accounted for 17%.
