Infosys, Economist Impact unveil value chain navigator to tackle emissions

Infosys

Infosys and Economist Impact, a division of the Economist Group, has unveiled a novel platform known as the Value Chain Navigator (VCN).

This partnership comes as a progressive step in creating tech solutions that conscientiously address global challenges, merging the technological prowess of Infosys with the impactful initiatives driven by Economist Impact.

The inception of the VCN is steeped in the tangible need for businesses to comprehend and consequently, curtail their scope 3 emissions effectively. Scope 3 emissions, constituting a significant portion of a company’s carbon footprint, envelop all indirect emissions within both upstream and downstream activities across an organisation’s value chain.

This comes amid an amplified global and regulatory impetus for businesses to transparently report their scope 3 emissions, keeping in stride with burgeoning sustainability reporting standards such as the EU’s CSRD and the IFRS’ ISSB.

Infosys, established as a trailblazer in technology, digital services, and consulting, offers a plethora of services aimed at helping businesses navigate the complex technological landscape. On the other hand, Economist Impact, a division of the reputable Economist Group, prides itself on addressing critical global issues and driving substantial change through insightful analysis and impactful initiatives.

VCN comes forth as an open digital platform designed to assist businesses in navigating through the intricate network of their scope 3 emissions by providing interactive tracking, utilising precise tools and offering customised recommendations. Notably, this tool is set to be featured on The Sustainability Project, a content and community platform conceived by Economist Impact and technically realised by Infosys, aiming to further sustainable solutions and wield impact through a new business-to-business model.

In terms of product features, the VCN platform showcases capabilities to explore scope 3 emissions across Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)-defined business activity levers like supplier engagement, product design, and investment strategy. Moreover, the platform allows users to delve into how companies globally are navigating their scope 3 emissions with a detailed survey of 1,250 companies across various regions, sectors, and sizes, besides receiving tailored recommendations to minimise scope 3 emissions using a self-assessment tool that encompasses specific business challenges and opportunities.

The VCN platform is enriched with a spotlight film series featuring business leaders sharing their experiences, challenges, and strategic decisions in managing their scope 3 emissions journeys. Furthermore, the platform enables users to track media coverage of scope 3 innovation and regulation, providing a comprehensive view and insights into the ongoing global discussions and developments in managing and reducing scope 3 emissions.

Infosys evp & global head – services, utilities, resources and energy Ashiss Kumar Dash said, “The Value Chain Navigator will be pivotal in driving collaborative action at scale to tackle scope 3 emissions, supporting businesses along their value chains to reduce their carbon footprint. With this solution, we further strengthen the tools delivered through The Sustainability Project to empower stakeholders to navigate a changing landscape through data and insights and chart their course for a better future.”

Economist Impact president Claudia Malley also commented on the launch, stating, “At Economist Impact we focus on addressing pressing issues and providing the necessary insights to advance sustainable solutions. Our work with Infosys to create The Sustainability Project and now, the Value Chain Navigator, exemplifies the impact we can make in the world.”
