The firm has appointed Mike Heaton as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The move signifies a strategic move for Markel Group as it reinforces its operational leadership and system development to support its diverse family of companies.

With a rich history of sound underwriting practices spanning decades, the insurance arm of Markel Group has been at the heart of the firm’s success.

It has played a pivotal role in providing the necessary capital foundation for the company to build its widespread organisation, which has led to it becoming a multifaceted conglomerate comprising a wide array of businesses, ranging from insurance to bakery equipment.

Heaton brings extensive experience and a proven track record to his new role at Markel Group. Having served in various leadership positions within the company, including President of Markel Ventures and Executive Vice President, Heaton has played a pivotal role in driving transformational initiatives and fostering a culture of autonomy and accountability.

In his expanded role as Executive Vice President and COO, Heaton will spearhead the day-to-day operations of Markel Group, focusing on capital allocation, leadership development, and cultural values alignment.
