KnowBe4 has announced its plans to acquire Egress, a prominent figure in adaptive and integrated cloud email security.
Egress is renowned for its Intelligent Email Security suite, which employs scaled, AI-enabled security tools with adaptive learning capabilities, designed to mitigate sophisticated email cybersecurity threats.
KnowBe4’s acquisition of Egress is strategically aimed at combining threat intelligence and personalized AI-driven controls through a unified platform. This integration seeks to dynamically enhance AI-based email security and training, tailoring it relative to risk.
Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the merger promises to address behavioral-based data breaches, which often involve human errors, as highlighted in Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report.
KnowBe4 is a leader in the cybersecurity training sector, providing comprehensive security awareness training and simulated phishing tests. Their recent innovations include the AI-native platform, Artificial Intelligence Defense Agents (AIDA), which significantly boosts the effectiveness and speed of cybersecurity measures. On the other hand, Egress specializes in cloud-based email security solutions, with its flagship product offering advanced AI-driven protections that adapt to evolving security threats.
The transaction between KnowBe4 and Egress is set to finalize in the coming months, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Egress has received backing from FTV Capital and AlbionVC, and was advised financially by Citi and legally by Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP during the acquisition process.
Both KnowBe4 and Egress have had notable successes in 2024. KnowBe4 has been recognized as a Top Software Winner by G2 and received an award from Energage’s Top Workplaces USA. Egress, meanwhile, has launched its AI-powered Automated Abuse Mailbox and garnered multiple awards including Security Innovation of the Year and Best Email Security Solution.
KnowBe4 CEO Stu Sjouwerman said, “The future of security is personalized AI-driven controls and real-time coaching. By providing a single platform from KnowBe4 and Egress, our customers will benefit from differentiated aggregate threat detection to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and foster a strong security culture.” Egress CEO Tony Pepper said, “KnowBe4 and Egress have a shared vision of delivering tailored and relevant security to each employee. One of the biggest challenges organizations face is accurately identifying who the next source of compromise is – and why. By combining intelligence and analytics from integrated applications, companies can gain valuable insights across their entire cyber ecosystem, allowing them to focus on the risks that matter most.”
