Laka, an award-winning bicycle insurance provider, has announced the expansion of its services to France.

This new launch enhances Laka’s commitment to the European cycling community, building on its presence in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK.

The move marks a significant milestone for Laka, reflecting its dedication to supporting cyclists with comprehensive insurance solutions.

With an existing partnership with Decathlon and the recent acquisition of the bike insurance broker Cylantro, Laka is well-positioned to deliver top-tier insurance services tailored specifically for cyclists in France.

Founded in 2017, Laka has revolutionised traditional insurance by eliminating long contracts, excessive fine print, and poor customer service.

Unlike conventional insurers, Laka earns a success fee only when a claim is settled, aligning its interests with those of its customers.

This customer-centric approach, featuring zero excess and monthly contracts, has led to Laka winning Best Cycle Insurance Provider for six consecutive years.

Laka’s primary offering is its collective-driven insurance, featuring award-winning bike, e-bike, and e-cargo bike insurance.

The company’s model ensures fairness by sharing each month’s claims among its collective of cyclists, resulting in a variable monthly bill with a guaranteed cap. This means cyclists only pay for what’s needed, not what’s expected.

Laka’s new insurance product in France offers comprehensive coverage, including theft insurance, accidental damage, roadside assistance, and race and travel cover.

This tailored coverage ensures that French cyclists are protected in all aspects of their biking activities, whether they are commuting, racing, or travelling.

What sets Laka apart is its unique insurance model, echoing the principles of French mutualism.

With no excess or depreciation, no long-term commitments, and a fast claims-handling service by bike experts, Laka prioritises its customers’ needs. This approach is further“Laka is really excited to be able to offer innovative insurance for all. We’re determined to provide a best-in-class experience for everyone and keep people pedalling. Customers can fully enjoy their bike, knowing that Laka has their backs and swiftly get them back on the saddle if needed.” strengthened by its partnerships with major brands like Decathlon, Gazelle, and Riese & Müller.

In celebration of the launch in France, Laka is offering all new customers a free 30-day insurance trial using the promotional code LAKAFRANCE2024. This initiative aims to introduce French cyclists to Laka’s unique insurance model and showcase the benefits of its comprehensive coverage.

On the launch, Laka CEO Tobias Taupitz said, “Laka is really excited to be able to offer innovative insurance for all. We’re determined to provide a best-in-class experience for everyone and keep people pedalling. Customers can fully enjoy their bike, knowing that Laka has their backs and swiftly get them back on the saddle if needed.”

French market expert Thomas Arnou added, “in France, bike insurance providers are either generalists without proper bike expertise, or specialists with a very small portfolio that doesn’t allow them to have mutualisation among customers. Generalists will struggle with the claims experience, as handling a smartphone or washing machine claim is not the same as handling a bike claim. French specialists offer a product that requires a long-term commitment, excess and depreciation of the bike value over time because their portfolio is small and volatile. Laka can provide a solution to that thanks to global Europeanmutualisation and the acquisition of the existing portfolio of Cylantro in France.”
