Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, and American Express, a global services company, have teamed up to offer an exciting new payment option for online merchants in Nigeria.
This partnership allows these merchants to accept payments from American Express Card Members, including those holding consumer, business, or corporate cards. This enhancement is not just limited to Nigeria but is set to expand to other African countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda soon.
The core objective of this partnership is to streamline online transactions and enrich the shopping experience for both merchants and consumers. It opens up a significant new customer base for Flutterwave merchants, tapping into American Express’s extensive network of cardholders across Africa and globally. Moreover, it provides shoppers with more flexibility in payment methods, thus strengthening American Express’s presence in the African market.
Flutterwave has established itself as a dominant force in the FinTech sector, enabling businesses globally to scale their operations in Africa and other emerging markets. Its platform supports a wide array of transaction types through a single API, catering to high-profile clients like Uber and Air Peace, as well as various industries across the continent. The company has processed over 630 million transactions, amounting to more than USD $31bn, showcasing its significant impact and reach.
In addition to broadening payment options, this collaboration holds particular benefits for e-commerce businesses in Nigeria and beyond. Flutterwave aims to make the payment process quicker and more straightforward for American Express cardholders, enhancing the shopping experience and supporting businesses in their local and global expansion efforts.
Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “At Flutterwave, we’re always looking for ways to connect the world to Africa through payments. This is one of our initiatives to ensure that more people across the world can pay using Flutterwave in Africa.
“We understand the value of providing shoppers with payment methods that work for them, as well as helping businesses to expand their customer bases. This collaboration also provides more options of where to shop and what to buy to American Express card holders across the globe. By offering American Express as a method of payment, Flutterwave will make the payment process faster and simpler for American Express card holders, and improve the experience for e-commerce businesses using Flutterwave, helping them to start locally and sell globally.”
