Navigating the digital future with M-Files' new automation maturity model

M-Files, a leader in the realm of knowledge work automation, has introduced the M-Files Knowledge Work Automation Capability Maturity Model (CMM) along with a comprehensive toolkit designed to guide organizations through their digital transformation in content and information management.

This initiative leverages the CMM framework developed by Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute, tailored specifically for knowledge work automation and generative AI. M-Files’ deep expertise in this area enables organizations to adopt a more centralized approach to managing their content and information, focusing on five key competencies: information strategy, governance and resources, technology and IT infrastructure, automation levels, and end-user capabilities.

In a significant move, M-Files commissioned Forrester Consulting to undertake a study titled “Unlocking Efficiency: The Inevitable Rise of Knowledge Work Automation“. This global survey involved 415 IT and business leaders who are pivotal in their company’s enterprise content and information management strategies. The findings indicate a positive trend towards automation across various workflows and knowledge tasks, although many companies still have considerable progress to make in optimizing their content management practices.

Further enhancing their offerings, M-Files and Forrester have developed a Digital Maturity Assessment Tool that delivers custom recommendations and a maturity score from beginner to advanced levels. This tool aids organizations in identifying their current standing on the M-Files Knowledge Work Automation CMM and strategizes the integration of automation and AI into their processes.

Antti Nivala, founder and CEO of M-Files, emphasized the transformative impact of this era of knowledge work. “Knowledge work is entering a new era and to succeed, companies need to improve their maturity and automate mundane administrative tasks within their organization. To accomplish this, they must first understand where their organization sits across several focus areas and address the fundamentals to truly unlock the power of GenA.

“The M-Files Knowledge Work Automation CMM and Digital Maturity Assessment Tool provide organizations with a comprehensive understanding of where they fall in their digital transformation journey for content and information management. This allows them to establish a best-in-class strategy to enable employees to work smarter through automation and generative AI.”

The Forrester study further underscores the necessity of automation, stating that the sheer volume of information today makes it crucial for modern work scales. Companies excelling in knowledge work automation are seeing significant benefits, including increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and competitive advantage. As companies evolve, automating complex activities becomes increasingly pivotal.

M-Files’ platform not only automates document management and workflow processes but also enhances external collaboration, enterprise search, and compliance tracking. The GenAI assistant, M-Files Aino, offers real-time, context-aware assistance to swiftly process information and support multilingual document summarization, enhancing global enterprise operations.

The system’s foundation enables optimal AI performance, ensuring connectivity by integrating data from essential storage systems, prioritizing confidentiality with robust security measures, and maintaining information relevance through meticulous curation. These elements ensure that the AI delivers accurate and efficient results, setting a new standard in enterprise knowledge management.
