CrowdStrike acquires Adaptive Shield to boost cloud and SaaS security integration

CrowdStrike

CrowdStrike, a NASDAQ-listed leader in cybersecurity, is set to acquire Adaptive Shield, a prominent SaaS Security provider.

This strategic move aims to position CrowdStrike as the sole cybersecurity firm offering integrated, comprehensive protection against identity-based threats across the entire modern cloud ecosystem. This ecosystem spans from on-premises Active Directory through to cloud-based identity providers and SaaS applications, all consolidated on a singular platform.

The acquisition, which was announced at Fal.Con Europe—CrowdStrike’s premier user conference—will enable the company to offer unmatched protection across diverse and complex hybrid environments. By integrating Adaptive Shield’s capabilities, CrowdStrike will enhance its Falcon platform, reinforcing its stance as a frontrunner in the cybersecurity space.

Adaptive Shield specialises in securing SaaS identities, focusing on security posture management and threat protection across SaaS services. Their approach addresses misconfigurations and data breaches within numerous SaaS applications, a critical need as the adoption of SaaS and cloud solutions continues to rise. Conversely, CrowdStrike has established itself as a powerhouse in cybersecurity with a strong emphasis on preventing identity-based attacks through its Falcon platform.

This acquisition is timely. Cloud exploitation cases surged by 110% last year, reflecting the escalating challenge of identity-based attacks, which now constitute 75% of initial access strategies in cyber-attacks. Adaptive Shield’s integration into CrowdStrike’s Falcon platform will address these growing threats by providing comprehensive SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM) and enhancing visibility across over 150 SaaS applications.

In addition to enhancing existing security measures, this merger will introduce GenAI Application Security Control to the Falcon platform. This feature is set to enforce stringent security standards for AI-integrated SaaS applications, mitigating risks associated with configuration drifts and shadow AI applications.

Moreover, Adaptive Shield’s technology will bolster the Falcon platform’s capabilities in identity protection, offering a unified approach to securing hybrid cloud and SaaS environments. This consolidation is poised to streamline detection and response strategies, benefiting from Adaptive Shield’s existing integration with CrowdStrike’s next-generation SIEM system.

“CrowdStrike was built to tackle the toughest cybersecurity challenges, and we drive relentless innovation based on what our customers need to stay ahead of modern threats,” CrowdStrike CEO and founder, George Kurtz said. “With the acquisition of Adaptive Shield, CrowdStrike will continue to set the standard for identity-based protection in the cloud, delivering best-in-class SaaS protection from the Falcon platform.”

Adaptive Shield’s CEO and co-founder, Maor Bin, also highlighted the alignment of their mission with CrowdStrike’s objectives: “Widespread adoption of SaaS applications has rapidly expanded the enterprise attack surface, as shared responsibility models and fragmented security controls make SaaS environments a prime target. Our mission perfectly complements CrowdStrike, stopping SaaS breaches while further accelerating consolidation on cybersecurity’s most comprehensive platform. I’m incredibly proud of our team for building the most advanced SaaS security solution, defining the market.”
