HSBC, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, has announced the appointment of Emily Turner as CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking UK, effective February 2025, subject to regulatory approval.
Turner joins from Citi, where she held senior leadership roles, bringing significant expertise to her new position, according to FF News.
She has had a distinguished career at Citi, leading initiatives focused on innovation and growth. Over the past decade, she launched and scaled Citi Ventures UK, spearheaded Citi’s Global Institutional Strategic Investing group, and played a key role in developing early-stage companies through Citi’s internal incubator.
Most recently, Turner served as managing director and head of business development for Citi’s client organisation.
Turner will succeed Simon Bumfrey, who has been serving as interim CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking. Bumfrey will resume his role as head of technology and life sciences at HSBC Innovation Banking UK.
HSBC UK head of commercial banking Stuart Tait said, “HSBC Innovation Banking is a key part of our growth strategy and I’m looking forward to working with Emily as she leads this business through its next stage of growth. Across HSBC, we support 80 percent of FTSE100 and FTSE250 tech companies in the UK, and we have a leading market share of the most innovative companies and investment funds both in the UK and across the Nordics.”
Emily Turner expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I’m excited to be joining HSBC Innovation Banking and to help build on its success to date. HSBC Innovation Banking has quickly established itself as a go-to partner for the innovation ecosystem with a track record of supporting founders, companies and investors at all life stages. I’ve been hugely impressed by the team’s client-centric approach and look forward to working with them to take it to the next level.”
