Spreedly enhances payment success with Visa integration

Spreedly, a leading global open payments platform, has announced a major update to its offering with the launch of Just-In-Time Card Updates for Visa Cards.

The innovation, powered by Visa Account Updater (VAU), is designed to reduce failed payments by offering real-time card credential updates.

The new product addresses a longstanding issue in digital payments—outdated card information. This is particularly problematic in recurring billing and subscription models, where expired or changed card details can disrupt transactions and lead to revenue loss.

Based in the US, Spreedly offers an Open Payments Platform that enables businesses to connect to multiple payment services through a single integration. The platform supports global merchants by streamlining payment infrastructure and enhancing flexibility in payment operations.

The Just-In-Time Card Updates feature works by delivering updated Visa card credentials precisely when they are needed—during the transaction itself. This differs from traditional batch update processes, which often result in delays and inefficiencies. By offering card updates in real time, Spreedly helps merchants increase authorisation rates and maintain seamless customer experiences.

This new integration builds on Spreedly’s Advanced Vault capabilities, giving merchants more control and flexibility. Businesses can fetch card updates on demand, which helps reduce operational overhead and aligns card update processes with individual business needs.

In addition to real-time updates, the tool offers several benefits: higher authorisation success rates, reduced costs through streamlined operations, improved customer retention by avoiding service interruptions, and greater strategic control over when and how updates are applied.

Spreedly also highlighted that this launch is part of its broader collaboration with Visa. The company is further expanding its integrations to include Visa Acceptance across key payment gateways such as CyberSource and Authorize.Net, giving merchants more reliability and global reach.

Spreedly president Peter Dougherty said, “Our mission is to provide merchants with the flexibility and intelligence they need to optimize every transaction. We wanted to create an innovation that drives results for our customers – a card update in-line with the transaction itself does exactly that.”
