Was 2025 a good year for ESG FinTech and what does 2026 have in store?

FinTech Global recently spoke to Zaliia Gindullina, head of business development at WealthTech provider Kidbrooke, about the trends that continue to shape the ESG FinTech landscape.

There was a large move away from ESG ideas in 2025, with governments becoming increasingly hesitant towards the area. As such, there were some major regulatory changes to the space, most notably the EU’s Omnibus I package, which reduced the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). However, does this mean the entire ESG FinTech space suffered in 2025?

For Gindullina, that is not the case. Focusing on the investment data side of ESG, she noted it had been a good year. “It was a year of the revision of existing standards. The regulator has seen that the current standards were quite complex, inconsistently applied and sometimes prone to misrepresentation from investors. Therefore we could see a clear push towards usability, comparability and anti-greenwashing, which is of course a good thing.”

During the discussion, Gindullina also highlighted some of the major trends that defined 2025 in the space. This includes the simplification of standards and an increased awareness by fund managers of the importance of the presentation of their investment data.

Gindullina also set her sights ahead to the next 12 months and what it might hold for ESG FinTech.

There are two major themes she sees taking shape in 2026. The first is increased investor centricity of ESG data and moving to save investors from greenwashing. Secondly, there will be a rise in the importance of data aggregation and management in the ESG space.

She said, “Even though there is a trend towards simplification and the decrease in volume of ESG data, it is still critical for financial institutions to review, interpret and present ESG information in a way that is digestible for investors as well as any other stakeholders. Therefore looking ahead I would say that robust data governance and transparency will be considered more important.”
