Ebix expands COI platform with AI financial risk tools

Ebix, a provider of digital platforms for insurance, FinTech and healthcare, has expanded its certificate of insurance (COI) management offering with two tools designed to help construction firms assess subcontractor risk beyond insurance compliance.

The additions, Financial Lens and Integration Hub, aim to help contractors evaluate financial stability and connect compliance information with the systems they use to manage projects, procurement and finance.

Financial Lens enables construction firms to assess a subcontractor’s financial position alongside its insurance status. Using technology already deployed by banks and insurers, the tool analyses financial statements, tax returns and other supporting documents to identify potential warning signs.

Users can customise assessment criteria, including ratios, weightings and thresholds for factors such as liquidity, leverage and backlog. The platform also records risk ratings, waivers, overrides and reviewer actions to support consistent, auditable decisions.

Integration Hub connects Ebix COI with existing project management, procurement and finance systems, sharing compliance statuses, documents and alerts about missing requirements. The integration is intended to reduce manual checks and duplicate records while helping contractors manage onboarding and work approvals more efficiently.

The launch addresses a key challenge for general contractors managing multiple subcontractors across projects. Meeting insurance requirements does not necessarily mean a subcontractor is financially stable enough to complete a job, while disconnected systems can make it harder to identify potential problems early.

Ebix said its COI offering supports the ongoing monitoring of coverage against contractual requirements, including identifying gaps and tracking compliance as policies and project needs change.

The company processes more than 10 million insurance documents annually for nearly 400 active clients. Its wider offering includes AI-assisted contract analysis and reviews of insurance policies and endorsements to identify coverage restrictions. Customers can manage the platform internally or use Ebix’s managed services for verification, deficiency follow-up, renewals and ongoing oversight.

Ebix Risk provides COI management, risk management information systems, workers’ compensation electronic data interchange and exposure analytics. The wider Ebix group operates across insurance, FinTech and healthcare, as well as payments, foreign exchange, travel and education. It has operations in 12 countries and serves customers in more than 40 markets.

Ebix Technologies CEO Gagan Sethi said, “Financial Lens and Integration Hub are important additions to Ebix COI because they take the platform beyond traditional insurance compliance into broader financial and vendor risk management. This allows us to solve more of the risk challenges our clients face and opens a much larger market for Ebix across construction and other industries.”

Ebix Risk chief technology officer Robert Rodriguez added, “Effective subcontractor risk management requires more than verifying insurance coverage. It requires understanding financial stability and ensuring that critical risk information informs operational decisions. Financial Lens adds deeper financial intelligence to the qualification process, while Integration Hub connects compliance information to the systems where work gets done, giving organizations a more complete view of risk and the ability to act before potential exposures escalate.”
