Global Relay closes compliance gaps in Google Workspace

Global Relay has extended its range of Google Workspace connectors so that financial institutions can capture and retain electronic communications created across the Google platform in line with regulatory obligations.

The expanded connectors move data from Google Drive, Chat, Calendar, Meet and Gmail into Global Relay Archive. The aim is to let banks, brokers and other financial firms use newer Workspace features while still satisfying rules such as SEC 17a-4 and FINRA Rule 4511, which govern how business records must be kept.

The release frames the update around a tension many compliance teams now face. Financial professionals increasingly rely on AI-assisted tools in Gmail and Google Docs, along with collaborative spaces such as Google Chat and Google Meet, to speed up their work.

Each new tool, however, generates fresh records that regulated firms remain obliged to preserve and make available to supervisors.

Video calls are a particular focus. As staff hold more conversations with colleagues, clients and counterparties over video, those exchanges become part of the regulatory record. Under the Workspace integration, firms can send Google Meet recordings, transcripts and related metadata straight into Google Cloud Storage, from where Global Relay can archive them.

This folds video meetings into the wider compliance and records-management set-up already in place.

The connectors also gather the context around each communication. This includes file activity and version histories in Google Drive, recordings and transcripts from Google Meet, and conversations and shared files in Google Chat, all with their accompanying metadata.

According to the company, the result is a fuller picture of business activity than message content alone would provide.

Global Relay’s connectors convert data from a range of channels, including email, voice and enterprise collaboration platforms, into a single standardised format. This gives firms one consolidated view of their communications inside Global Relay Archive. Holding these records and their metadata together is intended to simplify search and eDiscovery, surface patterns, flag potential risks and support better decision-making.

The company positions its centralised environment as purpose-built for the demands of regulated sectors, arguing that compliance teams should not be forced to reconcile fragmented records spread across separate systems.

The company presents the update as evidence that firms need not choose between adopting new collaboration and AI tools and keeping a reliable, compliant account of their business dealings.
