ING, a global financial services group headquartered in the Netherlands, has appointed Alexandra MacMahon as its new country manager for its wholesale business in the United Kingdom, pending regulatory approval.

MacMahon joins ING from Santander, where she served as the head of the UK Corporate and Investment Bank, according to FF News.

With a 30-year career spanning Santander, Citi, and Morgan Stanley, she brings extensive expertise in banking, along with an in-depth understanding of the UK market landscape.

In her role as country manager, MacMahon will oversee a team of nearly 750 employees, managing relationships with clients that include over 60% of the FTSE 100.

She will succeed Malgorzata Kolakowska, who has led ING’s UK team since 2018, driving double-digit growth through both Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic. Kolakowska will continue her work on the Supervisory Board of ING Bank in Poland and expand her non-executive board portfolio.

MacMahon’s transition into the role will be supported by Kolakowska to ensure a seamless handover, with MacMahon officially starting in Q1 2025. She is expected to focus on ING’s strategic expansion and reinforce its commercial ambitions, particularly around sustainability and client relations within the UK market.

Commenting on her appointment, MacMahon said, “I am excited to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for ING in the UK, the industry, and our clients. My focus will be to build on ING’s strong foundations, leading the UK teams to seize key opportunities for growth and sustainability, while fostering strong relationships with our clients.”

ING’s head of wholesale banking EMEA, Eva Smolen, also expressed appreciation for Kolakowska’s tenure, saying, “We are deeply grateful to Malgorzata for her outstanding leadership and impactful contributions to ING’s global business over many years, including as the CEO of ING in Poland, global head of the Wholesale Banking network based in Amsterdam and almost seven years at the helm of ING in the UK. We’re also delighted to welcome Alexandra whose experience and vision will help us continue to strengthen and grow our presence in the UK market as we drive forward our ambition to be the best European wholesale bank.”
