Wise lands Thailand licences in push to expand across APAC

Wise, the global technology company that enables customers to send, receive and spend money across multiple currencies, has become the first non-bank in Thailand to secure the five regulatory licences required to operate locally.

The approvals, granted by the Bank of Thailand and the Ministry of Commerce, authorise Wise to issue foreign currency wallets and Wise cards to Thai citizens, businesses and foreign residents.

The product will be rolled out in stages, with customers able to join a waitlist from today to be among the first to access the Wise account — the country’s first fully digital, foreign currency wallet for managing money in multiple currencies within a single app.

The Thailand launch further strengthens Wise’s position in Asia-Pacific, one of its fastest-growing regions, accounting for over 20% of global revenue. In FY25, APAC revenue rose 22% to reach £263.8m, driven by demand for faster and more transparent cross-border payment solutions across the region.

Wise now holds over 75 regulatory licences globally. Beyond Thailand, the company has recently received full approval to launch in the UAE and conditional approval to enter South Africa.

Wise APAC head of banking and expansion SK Saraogi said, “Thailandʼs cross-border payments market has long been dominated by traditional banks, and Wise is bringing a faster, more transparent alternative. With these licences, customers will soon be able to manage money seamlessly whether theyʼre sending it abroad or using it locally. Beyond Thailand, we see strong demand for our products across APAC and will continue to increase our regulatory footprint to bring our products to even more customers.ˮ
