Mollie, one of Europe’s leading financial services providers and a platform supporting more than 250,000 businesses across Europe, has announced the UK launch of Tap, its new in-person payments solution aimed at small and medium-sized businesses.
The launch combines a portable contactless payment terminal with a standalone Tap app, giving UK businesses the option to accept payments in-store, on location, or directly from any NFC-enabled device such as a smartphone or tablet.
The product is available on two pricing models: a pay-as-you-go option with a one-off purchase and no monthly subscription or contractual lock-in, and a Pro tier offering lower transaction fees with a monthly subscription.
At the heart of the offering is the Tap terminal, a portable contactless device built specifically for SMBs and self-employed professionals. It can be set up in seconds and supports contactless card payments, digital wallets, and QR payments from a single device. The terminal features integrated 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, a full-day battery, and a large touchscreen display. A front-facing NFC reader allows customers to tap their card or device without needing to rotate the terminal. The Android-based device also supports digital receipts via email or SMS, tipping, automated end-of-day reports, and transaction history.
Alongside the terminal, the Tap app allows merchants to begin accepting contactless payments immediately using a compatible smartphone, tablet, or kiosk, without the need to purchase additional hardware. As businesses scale, they can add the Tap terminal while continuing to manage payments through the same Mollie platform. The launch also marks Mollie’s first proprietary payment terminal.
Mollie UK&I managing director Dave Smallwood said, “As part of our ongoing expansion in the UK, we’re deeply committed to helping every business get paid and manage their money effortlessly. That means helping them thrive in both online and in-person environments.
“With Tap, we’re giving UK businesses the flexibility to accept payments wherever they are, whether that’s on their phone or with a dedicated terminal. This is a key step in strengthening Mollie’s presence in the UK and supporting the growth of local businesses with simple, reliable payment solutions. We are excited to see how this expansion will empower British businesses of all sizes.”
