London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has unveiled a new Vessel Tracking API, developed in collaboration with satellite operator Kinéis and Wood Mackenzie Vesseltracker, offering customers access to comprehensive, real-time shipping and commodity flow data.
The solution draws on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data gathered from terrestrial, satellite and roaming networks to provide global visibility into vessel movements and operational status.
Going beyond raw data aggregation, the API applies a proprietary LSEG model that validates incoming signals and flags anomalous positions — including those caused by interference or transmissions originating from decommissioned vessels — responding to growing customer demand for actionable AIS data within enterprise workflows.
LSEG head of shipping, weather & agriculture Fabrice Maille said, “By combining our proprietary analytics with best-in-class AIS coverage from Kinéis and Wood Mackenzie Vesseltracker, we are delivering trusted vessel tracking data that supports more informed decision-making across global commodities and maritime markets.”
The breadth and quality of the data offering is underpinned by the two strategic partnerships. Kinéis contributes high-resolution satellite-based AIS coverage via its constellation of 25 nanosatellites, extending reach into remote ocean regions that are difficult to monitor through traditional means.
Meanwhile, Wood Mackenzie Vesseltracker brings its rapidly expanding network of more than 3,400 AIS receiver stations, which currently captures vessel activity from over 95% of commercial port visits globally.
The Vessel Tracking data is accessible through the new API and has also been integrated natively within LSEG Workspace and Interactive Map. This allows clients to analyse shipping activity alongside their wider market data and existing workflows, providing a unified view of maritime and commodities intelligence.
