Marsh, a global risk, reinsurance, capital, people and investments, and management consulting firm, has launched Stratus, a property insurance exchange built to address the operational risks facing digital infrastructure projects such as data centres and their associated critical support systems.
The new exchange gives clients access to up to $10bn in property insurance capacity through a single placement in the global property risk transfer market, covering the global exposures of US-domiciled companies.
Thirty traditional and alternative capital providers will take part in the exchange, with each evaluating risks individually to determine the most suitable level of support for every placement.
This more structured trading environment is intended to help providers better assess, price and diversify risk, while easing the aggregation concerns that tend to surface once digital infrastructure projects move from construction into operation.
Stratus also draws on Marsh’s data and analytics capabilities alongside its advisory services, supporting clients as they look to secure customised property coverage suited to their needs while transitioning digital infrastructure assets into service.
Stratus has been designed to extend naturally from Marsh’s existing construction-phase facility, Nimbus, giving clients a consistent route to coverage as their digital infrastructure assets progress into the next stage of their lifecycle.
The two facilities can be accessed independently or together, and further coverages can be layered in as client requirements change over time. Stratus will launch initially with a focus on property risk, with Marsh planning to broaden it into further lines including inland marine, cyber and casualty, with the eventual aim of creating a single point of access for clients managing operational digital infrastructure risk.
Marsh US property digital infrastructure leader Joe Macejak said, “As large digital infrastructure projects shift from construction to operation, the associated risks become larger and more complex, driven by multi-billion-dollar campuses, self-generating power systems, and emerging technologies used in processing units and critical equipment.
“By combining Marsh’s engineering data and analytics, risk consulting capabilities, and access to the global (re)insurance and capital markets, Stratus is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of operational digital infrastructure property placements and help clients secure the protection they need to support growth at scale.”
