Ant International, a global digital payments and financial technology provider, has secured a Payment Institution (PI) licence from the Central Bank of Brazil, strengthening its ability to provide payment and account services to businesses operating in the country.
The approval gives Ant International a stronger regulatory footing in Brazil, allowing it to expand its support for enterprises, platforms and small and medium-sized businesses through global payment and account services.
The licence builds on the company’s existing presence in Brazil through Antom, its merchant payment and digitalisation platform. Antom enables merchants to accept payments through PIX, card networks and other payment methods.
The new licence is expected to strengthen Ant International’s domestic and cross-border payment infrastructure in the market, as the company looks to deepen its relationships with local businesses and the country’s wider payments ecosystem.

Ant International’s wider business spans cross-border payments and account services, embedded credit and treasury tools, as well as FinAI and blockchain-based solutions for businesses across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The company says its digital payment network processes more than 20 million transactions each day, connecting 2 billion consumer accounts with 150 million merchants worldwide.
The Brazil licence adds to Ant International’s broader strategy of building a unified technology platform spanning payments and financial services. The company says its platform is designed to support financial institutions and merchants of different sizes as they expand their use of digital financial services.
The move comes as Brazil’s digital payments ecosystem continues to develop, with PIX becoming an important part of the country’s payments infrastructure. Antom already supports PIX payments alongside international card networks and alternative payment methods.
The new PI licence gives Ant International additional scope to develop its payment and account services in the country, while continuing to work with local partners and the wider Brazilian financial services industry.
The company’s focus will now be on expanding its regulated offering in Brazil and using its wider global payment infrastructure to support businesses operating across domestic and international markets.
