Fixed income markets are shifting away from the end-of-day pricing model that has underpinned valuation for decades, according to LSEG Data & Analytics, as latency, fragmented liquidity and volatility push intraday data from a nice-to-have to a baseline requirement.
Portfolios today span public and private credit, securitised products, ETFs, benchmarks and derivatives, with liquidity scattered across venues and protocols. LSEG Data & Analytics notes that risk, compliance and valuation teams are increasingly expected to justify decisions with precision, often before markets have settled.
A survey conducted by A-Team Group found that 95% of firms have already escalated their latency requirements or are actively planning a move from end-of-day to intraday delivery, with just 5% still viewing end-of-day data as sufficient. For LSEG Data & Analytics, that figure marks less a technology preference than a redefinition of competitiveness and operational readiness across the industry.
The stakes are rising because fixed income decisions hinge on what changes during the trading day, not after it. New issues, corporate actions, liquidity signals and credit movements can all shift how a price should be read. When the data foundation lags, teams risk working from information that is accurate but no longer useful for the decision at hand, a gap that widens sharply during volatile conditions or when instruments are difficult to value.
Price discovery is also becoming more complex as liquidity fragments across cash markets, electronic platforms and voice trading. LSEG Data & Analytics points to ETF and index data as an increasingly critical valuation signal, particularly when underlying bonds are not actively trading, with 90% of surveyed firms already using ETF price signals within valuation workflows.
Artificial intelligence adds further pressure. Advanced algorithms are being deployed to cleanse market noise, support cohort analysis and navigate complex metadata, but these tools are only as reliable as the data feeding them. LSEG Data & Analytics warns that AI trained on delayed or inconsistent inputs risks accelerating poor decisions rather than improving them, making intraday data part of the governance architecture rather than simply a faster feed. Transparency has become non-negotiable alongside speed, with 85% of firms rating clear lineage and methodology as highly important or critical to their confidence in pricing.
LSEG Data & Analytics frames the shift as one from data delivery to decision resilience, moving beyond whether data has arrived toward whether it can be trusted when markets move and regulators ask questions. Cloud-native delivery and APIs are central to this, linking datasets across front, middle and back-office functions to reduce silos.
The message for financial institutions is that latency strategy is now business strategy. Firms still reliant on end-of-day pricing may struggle to support AI workflows, defend valuations or respond to fast-moving markets, while those combining speed with governed, transparent data architectures stand to gain the clearest edge.
