LSEG launches Active Intelligence to sharpen World-Check

LSEG Risk Intelligence, the risk data and screening division of LSEG, has rolled out Active Intelligence, a new data engine underpinning its World-Check offering that aims to reduce manual screening effort for compliance teams and speed up customer onboarding.

The engine is built on Amazon Bedrock. It strengthens World-Check records by adding more secondary identifiers, fresher information and clearer sourcing for each entry. Rather than remaining static, the dataset is refined continuously, so the information customers screen against improves over time. The target users include banks, non-bank financial institutions, FinTechs and corporates, which can use it to focus on the matches that genuinely matter.

The first commercial product running on the engine is World-Check Resolve, which can be accessed within World-Check One through both the user interface and API. The tool uses advanced matching to separate credible potential matches from irrelevant noise.

In trials, it removed an average of 74% of false positives while keeping every true positive, which means recall did not fall. It also explains the reasoning behind each result, so analysts can spend their time on cases worth investigating instead of repeatedly dismissing weak name matches.

LSEG Risk Intelligence stressed that the technology is meant to assist human judgement, not replace it. Its specialist teams still oversee data curation and quality checks, and customer analysts remain responsible for reviewing and closing screening cases. World-Check Resolve ranks results and supplies rationale, but the final risk or compliance decision always stays with the customer.

The technical and engineering foundations of the engine are supported by the secure, scalable cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS). The partnership pairs AWS capabilities with LSEG’s risk data and sector expertise, so the AI can operate globally while staying governed, explainable and auditable.

The launch comes after LSEG Risk Intelligence surveyed 600 senior risk and compliance decision-makers. Of those surveyed, 94% believe their screening data is complete and up to date. However, only 48% said they could easily provide a full audit trail if a regulator challenged them, and 41% admitted their organisation is not fully ready for tougher regulatory scrutiny.

Manual verification is also widespread. Some 69% said they frequently or always cross-check screening results against another source before acting, and 93% said they do so at least some of the time.

The firm calls this the “decision gap”, meaning the distance between spotting a potential risk and having the context, logic, ownership and evidence needed to act on it and defend that choice later.

LSEG Risk Intelligence group head David Wilson said, “Effective screening depends on two things: the quality of the data and the ability to find the matches that matter. Active Intelligence strengthens both, and it keeps strengthening them, this is data that learns. Screening is deliberately sensitive, and it can leave compliance teams reviewing results that ultimately prove irrelevant.

“In testing across 650,000 screening cases, World-Check Resolve reduced false-positive alerts by an average of 74%, without suppressing any true positives. That means less unnecessary work and clearer evidence, not less visibility. Analysts can see why a match surfaced, and our customers retain control of the final decision.”

AWS VP & managing director, EMEA Tanuja Randery said, “Financial institutions need AI that operates securely and resiliently at scale, while remaining transparent and governed. Our collaboration with LSEG Risk Intelligence supports the technology and engineering foundations behind Active Intelligence, combining AWS capabilities with LSEG’s trusted risk intelligence data, domain expertise and commitment to explainability and human oversight.”
