Thompson Reuters is the latest company to join a consortium of institutions, headed up by New York fintech firm R3, dedicated to developing use cases for the blockchain technology in financial markets.
The information and news provider joins the group of more than 55 banks and financial institution that have signed up to the consortium since its founding last year.
The opportunities afforded by this emerging technology are enormously exciting for us and for our customers, and our goal with R3 is to collaborate together with the consortium and our customers in these key industry discussions as we shape the future of financial transactions, says Mark Rodrigues, Managing Director, Strategic Customers & Solutions at Thomson Reuters.
The firm hopes its connection with the consortium will allow it to explore blockchain uses in its financial trading platforms. It claims that more than $394bn was exchanged across its platforms daily in June.
Thompson Reuters say it’s been developing blockchain initiatives for more than a year across its New York and London offices, and hopes to explore opportunities for the technology outside of finance in its legal and tax business offerings.
