FinTech companies dominate LinkedIn’s list of startups people want to work for

Challenger banks and other FinTech startups are among UK professionals’ top choices to work for.

LinkedIn has issued its annual list of the top startups in the UK when it comes to attracting talent. The ranking was informed by the millions of data points, including job searches and company page views, taken by LinkedIn’s 645 million members.

Six out of the top ten companies on the list are in the FinTech industry. Thirteen out of the top 25 new enterprises on the list are in the sector.

Challenger bank Monzo claimed the top spot for the third year in a row. With the company having launched a massive hiring spree ahead of its expansion into the US, 800 new workers are set to join the business.

“Our employees are essential to Monzo’s continued success and we are delighted to have topped Linkedin’s Top Startups list for the third year running,” said Libby Townsend, chief people officer at Monzo Bank

“Over the last year the number of employees at Monzo has increased from 400 to over 1300. They are based in our offices in London, Cardiff, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and remotely all over the world and help make money work for over 2.8 million customers every day.”

Revolut claimed second place despite the financial service company having faced some negative headlines earlier in 2019.

Following fitness fashion brand Gymshark on third place, Starling Bank came in fourth. In August, the challenger bank announced that it was looking to break even by the end of 2019.

The next FinTech startup to enter the list was 11:FS, the challenger consultancy, tightly followed by Tide Business Banking on the ninth spot.

Having just closed a £6m crowdfunding campaign, Curve, the payments and banking platform, can now also add the title of being the tenth most popular startup for UK job applicants to its list of achievements.

Other FinTech companies on the top 25 list included ClearBank, Moneybox, Bud, Thought Machine, Flagstone, Monese and Modulr.

Katie Carroll, UK managing editor at LinkedIn, said, “Our Top Startups list shows that the FinTech industry continues to thrive and displays no signs of slowing down anytime soon. It’s incredible to see a startup able to maintain the top spot for three years in such an-ever changing environment and continue expanding at such a pace.

“It’s also fantastic to see the sector developing and new FinTech startups entering this year’s list, alongside other fresh entries such as Formula E. It’s certainly no surprise to us that LinkedIn members are applying for jobs at a raft of such innovative, exciting companies”.
