IDEX Biometrics has launched its first biometric payment cards in Turkey in collaboration with an unnamed issuer.
These cards are expected to be in consumer hands by Q1 2023.
This move comes shortly after IDEX announced a partnership with card manufacturer E-Kart.
It claims Turkey is one of the largest payment card markets, with 240 million cards in circulation and 1.8 million acceptance locations.
IDEX Biometrics chief commercial officer Catharina Eklof said, “We are pleased to bring the IDEX Biometrics platform solution for EMVCo compliant biometric payments cards to market in Turkey. A recently published market survey commissioned by IDEX Customer Lab, reveals 86% of consumers in Turkey consider biometric payment cards very convenient, and 82% would use a biometric payment card if it were available to them.
“As we expand the reach of our proprietary and innovative technology, we contribute to enhancing digital banking experiences and securing digital authentication across a variety of payment and digital authentication use cases.”
IDEX develops fingerprint identification technologies that offer simple, secure and personal authentication. It claims to help people easily complete payments that are secured against their identity.
The RegTech company has been making a big move internationally. It recently teamed up with augmented identity developer IDEMIA to support the launch of Sweden’s first biometric card. The card was launched for Swedish challenger bank Rocker.
