Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has published new guidelines to strengthen small businesses’ online protection.
The governmental authority’s new toolkit offers insights into different types of malware, scam emails and ransomware and, importantly, how to protect against them.
The guidelines also include advice for cybersecurity housekeeping, including making time to update systems, creating backups, utilising multi-factor authentication whenever possible and to make sure employees use strong passwords.
RegTech Analyst has previously reported how bad passwords are still a common problem for cybersecurity experts, with many still using famously bad passwords like “123456” and “password” to keep their infrastructure safe.
The news about the ACSC’s new guidelines comes after the cybersecurity firm Webroot released its annual list of the most dangerous ransomware strains out there in 2019.
ACSC is not alone in making efforts to keep Oz’s businesses safe. Earlier in October, the National Australia Bank, one of the four big banks Down Under, unveiled a small tool kit to help SMEs keep their digital infrastructure secure.
Just like the ACSC guidelines, it offered advice on common threats like ransomware and scams and how to protect against them.
