COVID-19 has not only caused major disruption into people’s lives and in the markets, but has also raised the risk of hack attacks. Now, Corvus Insurance hopes to help.

“Healthcare organisations and first responders require stronger IT security now more than ever before, as more operations move online in an effort to reduce human interaction,” said Philip Edmundson, CEO of Corvus Insurance. “Sadly, cyber criminals are hacking healthcare organisations more at this time knowing that resources and staff are stretched due to the pandemic. We want to do our part to strengthen the defences of healthcare organisations during this time of crisis.”

The InsurTech company has said it will provide its AI-powered cyber risk assessment tools for organisations on the frontlines of the fights against the pandemic. In short, hospitals and other healthcare entities in the US just have to log onto Corvus Insurance’s website and request a risk report and they can then get one free of charge.

The reports are produced through a non-intrusive scan of an organisation’s external-facing IT security systems, known as the Corvus Scan. Based on its proprietary software and scoring tools, the Corvus Scan can identify weaknesses and make recommendations for improvements to IT security.

The news about the offering comes as the risk of cyber attacks has grown with the spread of the coronavirus. Hackers have tried to leverage the virus by mounting phishing and other malware attacks against both hospitals, bodies like the World Health Organization and other businesses.

Moreover, as many companies have been forced to send their employees to work from home, many businesses have seen their digital defences stretched.

Of course, Corvus Insurance is not the only InsurTech company trying to do its part. For instance, its rival KYND has also offered its cyber risk reports for free.

Other FinTech and RegTech companies have also made similar bids to help out in the fight against the coronavirus.
