European WealthTech deal hits five year-year low as it dropped by 71% YoY
In 2024, the European WealthTech sector saw significant declines in both deal activity and funding compared to previous years.
A total of 272 deals were recorded in 2024, marking a 71% drop from the 924 deals completed in 2023 and a 75% decrease from the 1,088 deals in 2020.
This was the lowest number of deals recorded in the last five years, highlighting the severity of the downturn in the sector.
Funding also experienced a sharp decline, with WealthTech firms raising $5.4bn in 2024—a 65% decrease from the $15.6bn raised in 2023 and a 52% drop from the $11.4bn raised in 2020.
This contraction reflects a challenging environment for WealthTech companies, as investors adopt a more cautious stance in the face of macroeconomic and market uncertainties.
Average deal value peaked at $19.9m in 2024
The average deal value in 2024 was approximately $19.9m, a 21% increase from $16.9m in 2023 and a 94% increase from $10.5m in 2020.
This represents the highest average deal value in the last five years, peaking in 2024, and suggests that while the total number of deals has plummeted, investments have become more concentrated.
Investors are focusing on larger, more strategic funding rounds, likely aimed at established players in the WealthTech ecosystem.
