Mira Security joins Darktrace to enhance encrypted traffic insight

Darktrace

Darktrace, a global leader in AI-powered cybersecurity, has announced the acquisition of Mira Security, a provider of advanced network traffic visibility solutions, to enhance its capabilities in detecting and analysing encrypted data traffic.

The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two companies. It is aimed at closing the encrypted traffic blind spot without impacting network performance or requiring complex re-architecting. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, the integration will bolster Darktrace’s Network product offering, particularly in regulated sectors such as financial services, government, and critical infrastructure.

Darktrace delivers autonomous cyber defence solutions that leverage AI to detect, investigate, and respond to threats across digital environments. Its flagship product, Darktrace / NETWORK, is a recognised leader in Network Detection and Response (NDR), earning top industry ratings from Gartner, IDC, and KuppingerCole.

Mira Security specialises in network traffic decryption and visibility. Its in-line decryption technologies enable secure analysis of encrypted data streams, helping organisations maintain performance while gaining deep visibility across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures. Mira Security operates with engineering teams based in Centurion, South Africa, and the United States.

As part of the acquisition, Mira Security’s engineering team will join Darktrace’s R&D division. This will expand Darktrace’s research capabilities, with the Mira team contributing its experience in high-performance networking software and hardware. Their expertise is expected to help Darktrace develop next-generation hardware capable of 100 Gbps interfaces, higher ingestion capacity, and broader support for strategic deployments.

The deal also supports Darktrace’s broader strategy of accelerating innovation through both internal development and strategic acquisitions. This follows its earlier purchase of Cado Security to improve its cloud security capabilities and the launch of new AI models to enhance detection, response, and threat prioritisation.

Darktrace said its network product, which is rated 4.7 stars on Gartner Peer Insights, will be further enhanced through the integration. Existing Mira Security customers and partners will continue to be supported throughout the transition.

Darktrace chief strategy officer Phil Pearson said, “The acquisition of Mira Security is another building block in our strategy to develop best-in-class cybersecurity solutions and keep our customers safe through continuous innovation. Mira Security has already proven to be a valuable source of insight for our AI, helping us provide unparalleled detection and response capabilities at scale. By bringing the Mira Security team’s deep expertise into Darktrace, we will be able to accelerate innovation, deepen the capabilities of our market-leading Network product and unlock even greater security performance for our customers.”

Mira Security founder and CEO Niel Viljoen said, “The combination of Mira Security and Darktrace’s unique technology and brilliant R&D talent will create even more exciting possibilities for protecting complex network environments. Together, Mira Security and Darktrace will be able to deliver new value for customers and partners.”
